Professor Schiess joined the faculty at The University of Texas School of Law in 1992, after three years of law practice in the Dallas office of Baker Botts, LLP. Schiess is the director of the legal-writing program and teaches legal writing, legal drafting, and plain English. He is also a frequent seminar speaker on those subjects. He has published more than a dozen articles on practical legal-writing skills, plus two books: Writing for the Legal Audience and Better Legal Writing. He expects his third and fourth books on legal writing to be published in 2008. He received his J.D. from Cornell Law School.
