Patrick Badolato is an associate professor of instruction in accounting for The University of Texas at Austins McCombs School of Business. He serves a unique role because he teaches in all McCombs programs: executive, full-time, evening, Dallas, and Houston MBA programs, as well as the MPA, MS, and MSTC graduate programs and undergraduate BBA program. His classes include Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Accounting, and Accounting Concepts and Research.
At the end of the 2025-2026 academic year, he will have taught 247 classes in 15 years, with roughly half of those in the past six years. Despite this unmatched volume, Badolato maintains exceptionally high quality as evidenced through numerous teaching awards and recognitions. Most importantly, these included nine "best professor" awards across five different McCombs programs a true representation of student voices and the impact of his teaching. These also included numerous awards and nominations as determined by faculty and administrative committees, recurring recognition from Poets & Quants, and dozens of honor roll recognitions (which are determined by course instructor surveys).
His research interests revolve around corporate governance, financial reporting choices, and the use of financial information. His research has been published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics and by Sage Business Publishing.
Outside of McCombs, Badolato has been noted in podcast discussions and media mentions for his tax commentary and analyses of numerous companies. For several years, he served as a consultant and accounting subject matter expert for Harvard Business Publishing, and he helped in the development of Harvard Universitys HBX CORe program in financial accounting (now a part of HBS Online). He also served in a similar capacity for Wall Street Prep in 2020. Before pursuing his Ph.D., Badolato worked in the assurance and tax practices for Ernst & Young. To maintain connections with past students and various professionals, he creates and posts considerable original content and articles on LinkedIn.
Badolato earned B.S. degrees in accounting and economics from Villanova University and a Ph.D. in accounting from Duke University. He also holds his CPA license.
