Donna DeCesare joined the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism in the fall of 2002, after two decades as an international freelance visual reporter covering social issues. She is the recipient of numerous documentary photography awards and grants including the Dorothea Lange prize, an Alicia Patterson fellowship, the Mother Jones Award for Social Documentary photography, a Fulbright Fellowship and two Open Society Foundation grants. Her most recent OSF Audience Engagement grant in 2011 provided funding to bring her work on youth gangs and migration to young audiences in El Salvador. DeCesare is a consultant to the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma. Her book "Unsettled/Desasosiego: Children in a World of Gangs" was published in a bilingual edition by The University of Texas press in spring 2013.
