Dr. Davis was educated at UCLA; University of California, Berkeley; and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign--Dr. Davis has been teaching in the Graduate School of Library & Information Science since 1971, where he has edited the scholarly journal LIBRARIES & CULTURE (published quarterly by University of Texas Press) since 1976. He has published numerous reference books and edited collected works, including the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF LIBRARY HISTORY (1994); over 125 book chapters, articles and reports, as well as more than 200 book reviews. He has lectured widely in various countries, most recently in China.
