Christopher J Bryan
Christopher Bryan is an associate professor of business, government, and society at The University of Texas at Austins McCombs School of Business. He also serves as a faculty research associate for UTs Population Research Center, and he is co-founder and co-director of the Texas Behavioral Science and Policy Institute.
Before joining McCombs, Bryan worked as an assistant professor of behavioral science and FMC faculty scholar for the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. While there, he taught courses in negotiation and behavioral science methods. Bryan has written textbook chapters on social psychology and behavioral science.
A respected researcher and speaker on psychology, Bryan develops novel behavioral interventions to influence people's real-life behavior choices and uses rigorous, randomized field experiments to evaluate their effectiveness. Bryan's most significant theoretical contribution is the values-alignment theoretical framework, which articulates a general approach for designing highly effective behavior-change interventions. His research has been published in the most prestigious peer-reviewed scientific journals in the world, including Science, Nature, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. His research has also appeared in the most prestigious disciplinary journals in his field, including Nature Human Behaviour, Nature Reviews Psychology, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Child Development, and Perspectives on Psychological Science.
His research has also been featured by major media outlets, including NPR, CBC Radio, Slate, Fast Company, Scientific American, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
Bryan earned a B.A. in psychology from McGill University and a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University.
