Dr. Machemehl has taught and performed research in transportation system operations for more than 25 years. For the last three years he has served as Associate Chairman of The Civil Engineering Department and became Director of the Center for Transportation Research in June 1999. His research interests include solving operational problems of urban freeways, optimizing urban traffic signal systems and making public mass transportation a more desirable travel mode.
