Michelle Harrison is Director of the Health & Integrative Physiology Laboratory. She received a B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of British Columbia in Canada, and then a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas at Austin. She completed her undergraduate degree and worked in a clinical laboratory setting for a number of years as a medical laboratory technologist. Her personal interest in exercise and health motivated her to return to school to obtain her graduate degree. Michelle's research interests revolve around the interaction between lifestyle behaviors and cardiovascular health. As a result of our declining health as a society, she believes that a shift in emphasis from a 'reactive' to a 'preventative' health care system is imminent. To support this necessary change on how health care is delivered, it is imperative that those involved in kinesiology and health education continue to promote the evidence-based theory that everyday behavior has a direct impact on overall health.
