Robert Olwell's research and teaching interests are focused on the eighteenth-century British-Atlantic World and the early American South. Particular subjects of interest are slavery, abolition, the American Revolution, and the British-American Empire. His books include "Cultures and Identities in Colonial British America" (2006; revised version 2015, edited, with Alan Tully) and "Masters, Slaves, and Subjects: The Culture of Power in the South Carolina Low Country, 1740-1790" (1998). He is currently working on a monograph, titled "Imaginary Empire: British Adventures in Florida on the Eve of the American Revolution."
