Robert N Schmidt
Professor Schmidt has designed scenery for theatre, opera, dance, and television in the United States, Europe and Asia, with such companies as The Huntington Theatre (Boston), The Alley Theatre (Houston), The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, The Denver Center Theatre, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival (Montgomery), The Great Lakes Theatre Festival (Cleveland), The Colorado Shakespeare Festival (Boulder), The Cleveland Play House and The Danish State Television Company (Copenhagen). He also designed the award winning US entry to the Prague Quadrennial Scenography Exhibition in 2003. His drawings and models have been exhibited in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Austin, Houston, Boulder and Prague. In addition, he has also served on the board of directors of the University/Resident Theatre Association, as Scenic Design Commissioner for the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology, and as the US representative to the Scenography Commission of OISTAT (the International Organization of Scenographers and Theatre Architects). At The University of Texas at Austin he served as both Associate Chair and Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance before retiring in 2011. Professor Schmidt was named the Frank Erwin Centennial Professor Emeritus in Drama.
