Tyner is an expert on media literacy and the uses of new media in formal and informal learning spaces. Kathleen Tyner consults internationally with businesses, NGOs and community-based groups to conduct research, development and technical assistance for new media and technology projects with particular expertise in serious games, virtual worlds, simulations and STEM subjects. She has particular expertise in usability research for new media, as well as surveys and focus groups for audience research, environmental scans, and capacity-building initiatives. She also speaks regularly at high-level forums such as the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Australian Teachers of Media, British Film Institute, Educause, Pacific Film Archive and UNED (Madrid).
